Prof. Philippa Gander
Professor Emeritus Philippa Gander is a pioneering chronobiologist who earned her PhD at the University of Auckland in 1980 and completed a Fulbright Fellowship at Harvard Medical School. She led groundbreaking work on pilot fatigue at NASA and, after returning to New Zealand in 1996, founded the Sleep/Wake Research Centre at the University of Otago Wellington, later part of Massey University. Her research has focused on the health and safety challenges of 24/7 living and the myth that sleep can be sacrificed for productivity. Retired since 2020, she continues to advise researchers while enjoying family, friends, and creative pursuits.
